INDIA Name Change to BHARAT

Well, there a big step is going to be taken by the Indian Government. The Indian government is considering changing the country's official name to "Bharat". This could have a significant impact on websites with ".in" domain names. In this video, we will discuss what the name change means for websites and how businesses can prepare.

The government has called a special session of parliament for later in the month, but remains tight-lipped about its legislative agenda, but the broadcaster News18 said unnamed government sources had told it that BJP lawmakers would put forward a special resolution to give precedence to the name Bharat.

An official at the president's office said they didn't want to comment on the issue when asked by Media.

Given the Hindu-nationalist ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and its push for increased use of Hindi, critics responded to the use of Bharat in the invites by suggesting the government was pushing for the name to be officially changed.

Over the years, Modi's nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has been changing colonial names of towns and cities claiming to help India move past what it has termed a mentality of slavery.
